What Past and Current School Board Members Said About Matthew John Markling in 2007:
I believe that Matt Markling has been a strong supporter of the schools for years and has demonstrated a commitment to meeting the needs of students across the district. His experience will enable him to hit the ground running as we work to implement this year’s goals and initiatives. I would find his perspective very useful and believe very strongly that he understands the role of school board members and the responsibility we have to advocate for all students and listen carefully to the concerns of our community. – School Board President Betsy Bergen Shaughnessy
Matt Markling is eminently qualified for the Lakewood Board of Education. As an attorney who specializes in school law, Matt understands the highly regulated world of education. As a college professor, Matt literally educates the educators. Matt is a homeowner and taxpayer, a parent of young children, an involved Lakewoodite. He will bring unique talents to the Board. – School Board Member Edward Favre
I am endorsing Matthew Markling for a position on the Lakewood Board of Education because I am impressed with his commitment to the City of Lakewood and to our school district and by the breadth of the knowledge that he would bring to the position. – School Board Member Linda G. Beebe
Markling brings a professional expertise in school law that will be valuable to the school board. He is committed to working with the board toward the successful implementation of the board’s goals and initiatives. I endorse Matthew John Markling for the Lakewood Board of Education. – Former School Board Member W. Charles Geiger, III
As a parent of two young children, Matthew Markling understands the education and safety concerns families have for children in our school district. Matt is the best candidate for Lakewood Board of Education who will bring an understanding of public education to our community. I endorse Matthew Markling for the Lakewood Board of Education. – Former School Board Member Debra Sweeney

In an editorial entitled, Make an educated vote for schools (Oct. 25, 2007), the Lakewood Sun Post announces its endorsement of Matthew John Markling for the Lakewood School Board! In its endorsement, the Lakewood Sun Post states that: "Markling, a 36-year-old attorney, gets the nod for the third seat. He has two young children and can bring that perspective to the board. He also specializes in school law and is intimately familiar with the issues facing a district like Lakewood. Markling's learning curve would be short, since he regularly attends board meetings and is well-versed on the most pressing issues. [T]he strongest candidates are Beebe, Geiger and Markling, and they should be elected to the school board on Nov. 6." To read this endorsement, please click here.
